Student Features

A “Friends” fan, a champion baton twirler, a first-generation college student working to become a professional photographer: NYU students’ interests and skills run the gamut.

"I just love love anything that brings on the adrenaline and racing never fails." NASCAR driver Joe Graf Jr. (SPS '22) juggles a full undergraduate course load while racing the ARCA racing series full-time.

"It's a whole rigorous sport that people don't really understand." Tim Lyzen (Steinhardt '19) has been twirling his whole life, but only recently started competing. As he enters his senior year, he reflects on winning the national collegiate champion title and his inspiration for getting into the sport.

We followed the Goldberg family of Denver as their daughter, Aleksandra, prepared to begin life as an NYU student in the Big Apple.

“Being able to unlock stories from people is very important to me, says” Bashir Abdulkareem (STEINHARDT '20), who received a full scholarship to NYU through the Higher Education Opportunity Program. A photographer who enjoys connecting with his subjects, Bashir has used his time in college to hone his craft and to make a contribution to the student community through his work with Gentleman of Quality, the largest group for men of color on campus.
